Logo Design: Knotty Kreations

knotty kreations blog

I’m sharing another amazing small business who I had the opportunity to work with and create this fun logo for her shop. While looking for a new hobby, the owner of Knotty Kreations stumbled across crochet and it quickly turned into something she loved to do on a daily basis.

Logo Design: Fly Tots

Fly-Tots-Logo-980-pxLast month, I had the chance to work with some amazing small businesses and designed logos for their shops. Today, I’m sharing the logo I designed for Fly Tots. The owner of Fly Tots was surrounded by palm trees growing up and wanted that memory of her childhood incorporated in her logo.

Printable Birthday Calendar

Birthday calendar 1

I have been wanting to make one of these Birthday Calendars for a long time, and I’ve finally done it! I had seen so many cute ideas on Pinterest, but was always worried I’d mess it up. You see, when it comes to painting on wood, I find a way to screw it up and then I’m done with that project. I never want to see it again basically. Although, I remembered something my super talented SIL and friend (Tammy & Liz) did last year and I absolutely loved it!

Birthday C 2      Birthday C

I wanted to create something just like that, but didn’t want to have to deal with a painting fiasco. So, I came up with a solution and a printable that you can use too. It is extremely easy and all you need is:

Materials:

A Printer

Scissors

Picture Frame (make sure the surface is flat)

Drawer Knob

White Card Stock

Glitter Paper

Birthday Cake Printable (Download for 5×7 | 8x10)

Chalkboard tags + a small piece of string

Glue (Modge Podge)

Glue Gun

Instructions:

1. Print out your background from the following options below.

2. On a separate sheet of paper, print out the “birthday cake” and cut those pieces out. (I’ve tried printing on glitter paper, and it did not work out well, so DON’T do it!)

BIRTHDAY CALENDAR 2

3. Trace the “birthday cake” onto the back of the glitter paper and cut those pieces out.

4. Glue the glitter “birthday cake” pieces onto the background you printed out.

5. While you’re waiting for the glue to dry, hot glue your drawer knob at the bottom (center) of your picture frame.

6. Once everything is dry, stick the Birthday Cake Background into the frame and hang up your family & friend’s birthdays that you’ve written on the chalkboard tags onto the drawer knob and you’re done!

Easy, right? I’ve created 3 different backgrounds in 12 different colors. So pick your favorite and have fun creating you’re own Birthday Calendar! color-swatches

Gold Foil Printable

IMG_5027

Gold Foil is such a popular thing these days, I figured it was time to join the club. I don’t have a fancy silhouette, so I thought it would be fun to make a gold foil-looking printable. This print is a great reminder that you are beautiful for just being you, and to never change who you are.

The frame I used on the left was done by my talented friend Dominique, who is amazing at turning old things into beautiful home decor. She has a cute little shop on Etsy, and sells lots of upcycled and Shabby Chic frames and other decor at Birdie Go Go. You have to check her out!

I’ve made 2 different types of Gold Foil Prints to choose from, one with a normal Gold Foil look and the other with a Glitter Gold. If you aren’t feeling the gold but like the print, I’ve made a print with a black font.

Easter Gift Tags

Easter Gift Tag Display

Ever since I started this blog, I’ve bought more holiday candy than normal. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it’s not always a good thing since I lack self control when it comes to sweets. Luckily, I’ve made these cute little Easter Gift Tags to send this candy on it’s way out the door, if my family and I don’t eat it all before then (no promises). If you’re self control is better than ours, here are some cute Easter Gift Tags to use.

Free Shutterfly Photo Book

IMG_4413 IMG_4425 IMG_4433 post

For the first 3 years of JD’s life, I’ve created a “Year in Review” photo book from Shutterfly, and I’m so glad I did. Every now and again, I look at the books and can’t believe how fast my 4 year old is growing and all the fun stuff we’ve accomplished each year. He’s been to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico during his first year, been to Disneyland every year of his life, and last year began the start of his professional baseball career playing t-ball – just to name a few. It’s a tradition I plan to continue throughout the rest of his life, and will begin to do for his little brother, Danny.

Once again, Shutterfly is offering a FREE Photobook.*

Click here and enter the code 1FREEBOOK in your account (click my account/special offer code) or at checkout. You can also use this code toward a purchase of a larger book.

This offer ends on March 23, so you’ll want to get started! I have loved all of my photo books from Shutterfly and the quality is great! They’re easy to make and there are so many cute themes to choose from.

What will your next photo book be about?

The Liebster Award

Liebster-Award

I’m thrilled to announce that I have been nominated by the amazing Just Sparkle! for The Liebster Award! It’s a great way for bloggers to connect as each nominee has to nominate 12 other bloggers who have 1000 or less followers on instagram.

I have nominated 11 amazing blogs, once you’re nominated, you answer the questions that are in the blog post below, link back to the blogger who nominated you in the post and on instagram, and pass it along!

I cannot wait to get to know the other bloggers I have nominated and how they got their start!

I am grateful for this nomination! Here is how Short Stop Designs came to be.

How did you come up with your blog name?

When I was first married, I created a personal blog for our teeny tiny family. Because my husband was/is a huge baseball fan, and I’m not a big fan of writing, I wanted people to come and literally have a “short stop.” It seemed appropriate to name my family blog “Megan’s Short Stop.” The name stuck, and I wanted to created another blog to share my designs, so this blog was born! 🙂

Why did you start your blog?

I wanted to practice my passion for graphic design, and needed a place to share it. I’m lucky to be able to be a stay at home mom, and after a long day it with my 2 wild and crazy boys (whom I love dearly of course) it is just the thing I need to keep me sane and has turned into a hobby I enjoy working on.

What do you love most about blogging?

My blog has motivated me to work on being a better graphic designer and has been great to have as my creative outlet. I also have a passion for photography, and blogging has given me the chance to work on developing this “skill” as well.

What’s one goal you wish to accomplish this year?

My first goal is to continue to develop my blog, along with my graphic design!

The second is to meet other talented bloggers and understand this whole blogging world better.

What is your favorite social media site?

Hands down, it’s Instagram. I love that I can be inspired by so many other talented bloggers in one place.

How would you describe your personal style?

My style is me just wanting to be comfy. I am not stylish at all, so as long as my outfit matches and I don’t look like a complete goofball, I call it a good day!

If you could choose one store to shop at for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I am in love with Old Navy! I am a fan of sales and affordable clothes, and that place (to me) has both!

What is one fear you would like to conquer?

Driving in the snow. We will be moving to Alaska later this year, and as a California native, it is something I have been dreading ever since we found out about this big move. Wish me luck!

2015 Printable Calendar

Calendar Print

I was asked to create a calendar for the girls in young women so we could include all the upcoming activities throughout the year, and wanted to share this with anyone else who needed one! It’s simple and is great to use in organizations or for personal use. Below the calendar is a section for “notes” and “things to do, which I have found to be useful, especially when there is not enough room to fit everything you need to in the calendar box.

Make sure when you print the file, that you select “fit”/”fit on page” in the sizing options. I hope this helps keep you organized throughout the year!
